The Grocholski House in the ancient Sandomierz Voivodeship, which mentions the foundation in Grocholice of that church… There the epitaphs still agree with the foundation… There also their graves in front of the great altar, on the stones the Syrokomla coat of arms was in the year 1583.

HERALDIC LEGEND

Everyone agrees that this coat of arms was acquired in Poland and that the knight called Syrokomla of the Abdank coat of arms was granted a cross to his ancestral emblem because he defeated and conquered a Prussian pagan who challenged Polish warriors to single combat and insulted the Christian name; thus, as a defender of the crucified God, a cross was added.

Kasper Niesiecki, Herbarz, VIII, 589

DESCRIPTION OF THE COAT OF ARMS

The ordinary white Abdank should be on a red field, but at the top in the middle, there is a golden cross. On the helmet above the crown, there is the same white Abdank with a cross.

Lineage of the Syrokomla Family

Syrokomla, the distinguished knight, who first received such arms in the year 1331 as we mentioned at the beginning, who since certain goods were granted, founded the village of Syrokomla in the Krakow Palatinate… Grocholscijae, Grocholice, in the Sandomierz Palatinate.
They are recorded as the builders of the church and its founders there. Jacob Grocholski, Canon of Krakow, had it made in the year 1460. “Others, having accepted the division of goods, began to note their family from Grabów in the Radom district… for they were the goods of the German brothers Nicholas and Stanislaus Grocholski, Grocholice, Grabów, and Paciorkowa Wola. Hence, due to the division of goods among themselves, they were variously named. Nicholas Grocholski, a man known for his judgment, had 2 daughters, Albert and Andrew, the latter married Margaret Wielgorska and had sons Valentine and Matthew, who later became religious in the Dominican Order and was a Master of Sacred Theology and Provincial, his daughters Szartowska and Makowska. Andrew, on the other hand, a distinguished knight in Podolia, after various warlike deeds, married Elisabeth Wydżanka of Rzyczyce, sister of the subjudge of Lviv, and left sons Stanislaus who took vows to God in the Dominican Order, John.
A valiant man, Ezechiel, who consecrated his days to the business of the Lord of Heaven and was a Theology Lecturer among the Dominicans and Provincial in the Province of Russia in A. 1644, Andrew and Christopher, knights, whose sister Lucas Guzelphi. Stanislaus, brother of Nicholas, from Barbara of Podhaice Wolska left Lucas, Andrew, George, and John, and from another marriage Job George was killed in Rokosz, trampled by cavalry when defending the Royal party, Job from Sulimirska left offspring. Thomas, a knight.
