GROCHOLSKI Stanisław Wincenty (1835-1907) – a social activist born on August 8th in Piatnyczany, Vinnytsia County. He was the son of Henryk and → Ksawery from the Brzozowski family, brother of → Tadeusz and → Maria Czartoryska. He graduated from the Petersburg Cadet Corps. He served in the Kiarysir Horse Regiment, and on September 6th, 1855, he joined the noble regiment. According to the terms of the family division of the paternal inheritance (1892), he received Piatniczany, Stadnica, Michajłówka, Kołomyjówka in Vinnytsia County, Potok, Wójtówka, Wołowodówka in Bracław County. He lived in Piatnyczany. He was legitimized with his brother Tadeusz in 1881 in the Podolia Governorate and received confirmation of the count title.

He actively participated in the life of Vinnytsia and Vinnytsia County. From 1889, he was a member of the Vinnytsia County Representation for Rent Affairs. Elected to the Vinnytsia County Committee for Agricultural Economy, particularly at the committee meeting on August 4th, 1905, he published his report “Regarding the issue of national education: the method of controlling grants distributed by zemstvo councils” (“Regarding the issue of national education: the method of controlling grants distributed by the zemstvo council”). From 1904-07, he was a councilor of the Vinnytsia City Council. He was repeatedly elected as a juror in Vinnytsia County. He was the chairman of the board of trustees of the Vinnytsia branch of the Podolia Agricultural Association with its center in Kamieniec (from its founding until his death). He participated in the congress of landowners of the Podolia Governorate, where the Podolia Agricultural Farms Association (PTSG) was founded (August 28-31, 1896, in Proskurov), became a member of the association’s board, and then chairman of the forestry department. Together with his brother Tadeusz, he founded the first savings and loan association in Vinnytsia in 1880 (the so-called Peasant Bank), which quickly developed into a very extensive activity. He was the chairman of its supervisory board. In 1906, this association created the S.G. Grocholski Scholarship Fund.

He built a Catholic chapel in Soboliwka, Vinnytsia County. After the death of the famous Ukrainian portrait painter Jan Zasidatelia (March 2, 1893) and his wife Konstancja from the Fedkowicz family (May 6, 1894) in Vinnytsia, he was the guardian of their son Witold (*August 26, 1878, Naples).

He died on November 21, 1907, in Munich, buried on March 1st in the family chapel-mausoleum near Stryzhavka. He was married (wedding on December 29, 1875, in Krakow) to Wanda Zamoyska (1846-1922), daughter of Zdzisław and Józefina from the Walicki family, with whom he had a son → Zdzisław and daughters Maria (Sobanska) and Helena (May 21, 1888, Piatniczany –1961). Letters from G. to his family members are stored in the State Archive of the Volyn Region (ДАВО).
